When Fiction and Music Collide
Music Monday 13: Pocket Rochelle’s Growing Role
I’m excited to share something special with you today! If you’ve been paying attention to this space or my social media, you might have noticed the fictional band Pocket Rochelle makes an appearance. While they have limited “screen time” in the first book, I’m thrilled to reveal that lead singer Rochelle de Lioncourt will play a significant role in the upcoming books of the trilogy.
Fiction Meets Reality
What began as a creative element in my novel has evolved into something extraordinary. I actually went into the recording studio this winter to channel Rochelle’s voice and bring the fictional band’s music to life! This three-song EP captures the essence of Pocket Rochelle with what one reviewer described as having “strong Cranberries vibes.”
The title track, “The Path That Takes Us Home,” (also the series name) along with the other songs on the EP, can now be streamed across all your favourite music platforms. Better yet, if you purchase a copy of When the Trees All Burned, you’ll find a download code in the back of the book for free access to all three songs!
Musical Themes Echo the Trilogy
The music is dynamic, urgent, and poignant—qualities that mirror the storytelling in the books. The lyrics intentionally touch on themes that will appear throughout the trilogy, particularly our relationship with the environment and the consequences of how we've treated our planet.
From the opening lines "I looked for you love, near the wishing well. I couldn't find love when it all fell" to the powerful chorus "This is not the path that takes us home," the song captures the essence of survival and hope amid destruction that drives the narrative.
Looking Ahead
As the trilogy unfolds, Rochelle de Lioncourt’s presence will grow significantly. The music provides subtle hints about where the story might go next, creating a unique multimedia experience that bridges fiction and reality.
Book Release Tomorrow!
I’m thrilled to announce that When the Trees All Burned officially releases TOMORROW!
To celebrate, I’m hosting a special launch party on Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m. at the Durham Art Gallery. As a special treat, I’ll be performing a stripped-down version of “The Path That Takes Us Home” live at the event.
This will be your chance to pick up a signed copy of the book, hear the music that inspired it, and experience how these creative elements work together to enhance the story world.
I’d love to see you there as we celebrate this unique intersection of literature and music!
