We have become so dependent on the internet that it’s hard to imagine a world without it; but, when the trees all burn, so too will all the technology we’ve become so reliant on. Many studies have shown that people would indeed be happier if we spent less time online. When everything comes to a head we will have no choice but to navigate the world in a more analog and intentional way. Inside the dome there will be no internet, smartphones won’t work, and relationships will happen face to face.

If you think the boredom is going to be your undoing it might be a good idea to start weaning yourself off technology. Challenge yourself to a few hours a day away from a screen. Read a book, do a jigsaw puzzle, play an instrument. Beginning to train yourself to experience relaxation away from tech is a great first step to ensuring contentment within the dome society.

Many of us feel short on time. Our lives are packed full of to-do lists. Life in the dome will offer a structured expectation of vocation, but it actually takes less time than you might think to sustain a community as small as two hundred people; in fact, work and communal chores will take up no more than six hours a day. The rest of the time will be yours.
